Parkdean Lizard Point – A Review

We recently had a wonderful week long holiday in one our my most favourite parts of the country, Cornwall. When travelling throughout the UK, we opt to stay in Parkdean resorts. They are always in superb locations and we have always found their sites clean, large and filled with incredibly friendly staff. It’s a tough one to call but I do believe Lizard Point has been our favourite Park Dean Resort.

The Resort

Lizard Point Parkdean is filled with lots of amenities. Guests have access to an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool (the outdoor pool was open in early summer but it was very cold). To use the pool, I booked online but the pool welcomes drop ins too. Both pools were spacious and great for a splash around with the kids. There is also a shop in the pool area where you can purchase googles, floats and toys.

A shop is located at the entrance of the site and this is filled with lots of essential bits. The staff in the shop were exceptionally friendly and were on hand to find anything I couldn’t find myself.

There are several eateries on site, including an indoor restaurant, a chippy and outdoor food outlets. My only complaint regarding out visit was the service in the chippy. We ordered food (which was rather pricey) and told it would be ready in 10 minutes. We waited for almost an hour for the food with no apologies for the delay and the food wasn’t all that nice. Another guest recommended a kebab van which is parked facing the entrance to the park.

This was a far better expererience with delicious food which was much cheaper than the food on site.

Kids can enjoy the park and the amusement arcade. The site itself is huge and you can explore it all by hiring a go kart (available for individuals, duos or families).

There’s also plenty of space to walk the dogs around the site too!

Entertainment

The entertainment at Parkdean Lizard Point was utterly exceptional. Each evening we headed down to the entertainment venue and each night we were treated to a different experience. Our favourite evening featured Parkdean’s version of Bongo Bingo. There were plenty of prizes to be won and everyone was up on their feet singing and dancing along.

A guest comedian entertained us one evening and the discos evenings always saw the dancefloor packed. On other evenings we enjoyed music from some of the resident live performers, our favourite entertainer was Matthew (the entertainment manager) who treated us to some wonderful songs. Later in the evening karaoke was on offer.

The resorts offers children’s activities throughout the day, including archery and crafts.

Accomodation

We stayed in one of the Traboe caravans. It comprised of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living space and a well-equipped kitchen. We also made use of the veranda complete with table and chairs. Inside the caravan, we had a TV, large dining table and chairs and a huge sofa. We were able to park next to our caravan which was a huge bonus.

Our dogs joined us on our holiday and we and they had ample room in the caravan which could have comfortably accommodated 6 people.

Location

Although the site and the facilities are excellent, what really makes Lizard Point Parkdean resort special is its superb location. Around a 5 minute drive away from Lizard Point, the site is also close to some of England’s most picturesque beaches. Our favourite beach, Kennack Sands is but a 10 minute drove from the resort and you’ll find other amazing beaches, such as Kynance Cove within a similar driving distance. Although these beaches are closely located, you will need a car, or be prepared to rely on public transport as there are few attractions within reasonable walking distance.

Lizard Point is merely an hours drive from Land’s End and Penzance and the famous Minack Theatre is a 55 minute drive from the site. The tidal island St Michael’s Mount is even closer, only a 30 minute drive away. The resort is perfectly located to explore the sites of southern Cornwall.

I can highly recommend Lizard Point Parkdean. We visited as a small family, but the resort would also make the ideal getaway from couples or larger families and groups. There was plenty to do on site and we found the resort perfectly located as a base for our exploration of Southern Cornwall. We cannot wait to return!
