The Hobbies Of Highly Successful People

Recently updated on August 13th, 2025 at 12:58 pm

Few things reveal more about us than our hobbies. Unlike our careers, these are the things that we choose to do for no personal gain other than simple enjoyment. They can reveal a lot about a person, and can even contribute to our mindsets, lifestyle choices, and overall skills. With that in mind, it’s endlessly fascinating to consider the hobbies of highly successful people.

While even celebs love to sit in front of the television, many of the most famous faces also have more interesting hobbies, which you might want to consider adding to your repertoire. Keep on reading to find out about some of the most successful celebrity hobbies we know about right now, and what adopting some of those same habits could do for you.

# 1 – Taylor Swift

Stardom doesn’t get sparklier than Taylor Swift. This worldwide phenomenon reached dizzying heights of fame at just 19. Now, she’s got an entire globe hanging on her every song, and she’s also got a widely publicised group of hobbies for us to dissect.

Top amongst them include baking, everything cat-related, and, interestingly, making snow globes. This last hobby is particularly standout, and is something she famously does for her friends at Christmas using basic materials like mason jars and glitter (and the odd antique, but you know…).

So, what does Swift’s love of snow globes teach us? Well, considering she could spend a fortune on Christmas gifts if she wanted to, this is a great lesson in the value of heart over money. Crafting, whether for yourself or others, brings benefits including stress reduction, enhanced fine motor skills, and mood improvements. And, of course, this is a great way to keep hold of close friendships even when you’re travelling the world as the best pop star of your generation.

Whether you choose to follow Swift with the snow globe theme, or opt for alternative crafts like cross stitch, you can’t really set a foot wrong with this one.

# 2 – Leonardo Dicaprio

He may have waited for most of his career to win his well-deserved Oscar, but Leonardo Dicaprio’s acting skill has been widely known since he was a teen in ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?’. The guy just oozes talent and transforms any role he steps into. But, what exactly does Dicaprio do in his spare time?

Luckily, he seems to have many hobbies, from hopping on a Citibike to revelling in backgammon games alongside fellow celebs like (incidentally) Taylor Swift and Charlize Theron. And, backgammon isn’t the only game Dicaprio enjoys – his love of a range of casino games is widely known.

Of course, not everyone could gamble like Dicaprio, but playing bet-free versions of these Dicaprio favourites can see you sharpening your mind, boosting your endorphin levels, and generally spending your free time more wisely.

# 3 – Beyonce

From dark casino rooms to bright natural expanses – next up we’re joining Beyonce, feminist icon, all-round bad-ass, and lover of…beekeeping?

Yes, we did just say that. Beyonce informed British Vogue a few years ago that she has 80,000 bees, spread across two beehives that make ‘hundreds of jars of honey a year’. Admittedly, Beyonce’s bee-loving hobby began as a viable way around allergies experienced by her daughters, but this is a hobby that can be good for more than family safety.

Beekeeping is just one outdoor hobby you might want to try if you live a fast-paced or city-centric lifestyle most of the time. Look at Beyonce – she’s touring the world, working hard, and then coming home to a calming outdoor activity that also reaps plenty of fruit. Great alternatives to bees could include keeping chickens, or even sheep. Even just getting out in the garden more regularly to tend plants and flowers can provide fresh air and all of the endorphins/health benefits that come with it.

# 4 – Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts has been stealing our hearts since that line in ‘Notting Hill’ (and probably long before that with roles like Pretty Woman’s Vivian Ward…), and she’s also got some great hobbies worth considering.

Similar to Dicaprio’s love of casino-style games, Roberts has spoken openly about her enjoyment of mahjong, which she reportedly plays with fellow celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker. This highlights the social benefits of co-play. Still, Robert’s most widely-discussed ‘secret’ hobby comes in the form of her knitting.

Robert’s knitting love was initially introduced to the world when Owen Wilson let slip the supposedly ‘secret’ habit during the filming of ‘Wonder’. When discussing her knitting with TheThings, she reported that she actually enjoys knitting most because ‘It’s a very social hobby, as opposed to reading – I can chat with people and still be fully engaged.’.

There’s certainly a lot of truth to that statement, which highlights that crafting doesn’t need to mean locking yourself away in a room until you’ve got a finished product. The public knitting displayed by celebs like Tom Daley in recent years has further cemented this reality, showing that knitting, as well as plenty of other crafts, could be a great way to occupy your mind, while still enjoying the world around you.

# 5 – Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt might have a firmly cemented place in the Sexiest Man Alive alumni, but he’s not just a pretty face. Pitt has also spoken widely about his hobbies, which include waking up early to play guitar, throwing pottery, and even producing wine on his Château Miraval estate in Provence. At times, especially post-Jolie, Pitt was also reported to spend as long as three hours a day sculpting alongside tutor and friend, Thomas Houseago.

Pitt’s wine-making provides an especially insightful look into what drives his hobby pursuits – with factors like patience and exploration at the heart of his champagne-based success. These same focuses are reflected in his love of pottery, where creations have to dry fully before they’re revealed. And, of course, we all know that hobbies requiring patience can bring some of the best rewards. Whether you’re interested in wine-making like Pitt, or other patience-heavy hobbies like fishing, taking time to wait for the good stuff certainly can’t hurt.

# 6 – Nicole Kidman

No one can deny Nicole Kidman’s classic elegance – the star simply shines like gold in everything she does on screen. But this seemingly gentle actress has a rather surprising hobby in the form of her well-documented love for skydiving.

Kidman has spoken openly about the fact that she has a skydiving license, and has also become an advocate that every woman should give it a try at least once. Why? Because Kidman reports that, as terrifying as a skydive can be, the fear is also incredibly exhilarating. Yes, in true ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ style, Kidman’s skydiving self-mastery is admirable.

But, do you need to jump out of a plane to enjoy the same thrill? Perhaps not (though all power to you if that sounds appealing). Still, there’s a lot to be said for other exhilarating sporting activities, too. As well as giving that much-loved endorphin buzz, challenging yourself with any sporting activity from swimming to horse riding can help to build self-esteem, and ensure you’re getting plenty of all-important exercise to boot.

Conclusion

Hobbies have a lot of power and never is that more evident than when you consider what our most successful celebs love doing in their spare time. Even if you’ve never found a hobby you’ve loved, you might just want to give these options a go to get into a success mindset at last.
