Maybe there was something about your house that you’ve been trying to ignore, but the bad weather is exposing it. Now, maybe the safety of your home isn’t necessarily at risk or anything; it’s more about the fact that it’s random frustrations. Like the driveway is way too hot (maybe even to the point that your pets can’t walk on it), the car feels awful before anyone even gets in it, the side path holds water for no real reason, and maybe some other issues too here.
But yes, most people don’t want some huge weatherproofing project. That sounds expensive, stressful, and like one of those things where the house looks worse before it looks better, and no thanks. Sometimes it’s not about rebuilding anything. Honestly, here, sometimes it’s just looking at the annoying parts of your home and making them less annoying before the next hot week, stormy day, or windy afternoon makes them impossible to ignore.
So, What’s Already Bothering You?
Well, usually, you already know what needs attention. You don’t need to walk around with a clipboard like some home inspector on TV. Just think about the stuff that makes you sigh every time the weather changes- well, when it’s raining, or when it’s extreme temperatures- that’s the main thing here.
So, does the front door area get soaked when it rains? Is there anywhere dry to put bags down when unloading the car? Does the backyard turn into a puddle near the gate? Are the trash cans always moving around when it’s windy? Does the car sit in full sun all day and then punish everyone for it later? Simple questions, but you’re probably getting the point here at least.
Give the Driveway Some Cover
So, the example above in the intro mentioned the driveway, and yeah, this honestly does deserve some attention here, hence why it’s being circled back. So, you can probably agree here that a driveway gets treated like it’s just a place to park, but really, it does more than that. It’s where groceries get unloaded, kids climb in and out, work bags get grabbed, muddy shoes happen, and someone always needs to stand there for a second longer than planned.
Not everyone has a garage where they can park their car, and not everyone even has a shelter or anything else to protect their car. So you might even want to consider custom carports to be built on your property. Honestly, even a small property can hold a carport for one; the goal is to protect your car after all. Besides, you never know when hail or falling debris could hit your car (and some insurance companies don’t always cover it either).
Stop Making Outdoor Stuff Run for Cover
There’s always something outside that isn’t quite protected enough. What? Well, it depends, but you’ll usually find that it’s garden tools, patio cushions, sports gear, pool toys, a grill cover that barely hangs on, the little outdoor table that gets disgusting every time it rains- you get the idea. You need storage for those, because in no time, these will just get worse.
