How To Make Your Guest Room More Homely

When you are looking to decorate the rooms of your house, the guest bedroom is the one which often gets the least attention. Since you are not the one using it, you can end up cutting corners and just going for the most basic style possible. However, if you want to give your guests a good impression of your house, you should try to put a little bit more effort into sprucing up the design and layout. Not sure where to get started? Bedding Upgrades and Fresh Linens

Even if you don’t want to spend huge sums of money on a brand new bed, there are plenty of more affordable ways of upgrading it. The little details make all the difference including the mattress topper, choice of pillows, down comforter, blankets and cushions. It is always a nice touch to have a set of fresh linens ready and waiting for your guests. Make sure that everything is clean and ready for use when your guests arrive.

Clear the Surfaces

If you are not careful, your guest room can end up as a dumping ground for all the clutter which you didn’t know where else to put. When it comes to the surfaces, you should aim to keep them as clear as possible. Of course, you may choose to display one or two more useful pieces such as a clock and a calendar.

A Comfortable Place to Sit

Some people prefer not to sit on a bed, so you should also have some alternative seating options. Perhaps you would like to include some multipurpose furniture, and you may need to help with what sectional to choose. If you are just going to have chairs in there, you won’t need more than two as this will reflect the number of guests staying.

Adequate Lighting

One of the biggest mistakes that some hotels make is that they don’t have enough lighting – especially for reading. It is always a nice touch to have a light control right next to the bed so that guests don’t find themselves having to fumble around in the dark. A couple of lamps on the bedside tables are also a nice touch.

Clothes Storage

You should try to make sure that the closets are nice and clear so that your guests have ample room to store their clothes if they are going to be staying for longer. Make sure to provide hangers too. And you can also provide useful finishing touches simply by placing a couple of hooks on the back of the door for towels, robes etc.

Luggage Rack

One of the most useful features which you can add to your guest room is a luggage rack. This way, guests are not having to store their suitcases on the floor and always bending down to get things all the time. You may also want to get a shoe rack. It is these little finishing touches which all contribute towards making a great guest bedroom.

Provide Privacy with the Window Dressings

The window dressings that you choose should add character to the rest of the room, while also offering both privacy and light control. If you want to keep things simple, you could always just go for a set of blinds. Install some shutters on the outside and your guests will have the option of keeping out much of the light outdoors if they would like to.

Entertainment Options

A TV is probably the most obvious of entertainment options which you could choose. Make things a little more personal with a set of some of your favourite movies and a DVD player on which to play them. You could also have a bookshelf filled with a range of reading material. And it is always a nice touch to include a guidebook and some maps of the local area

Hopefully, these ideas have helped to spark your imagination and provided you with a range of options when it comes to creating a guest bedroom which is going to be appreciated by everyone that comes to stay. Just because you are never going to stay in this room personally, it doesn’t mean that you should overlook it. You may even want to set up a little business on the side in the future renting out the space to guests. These tips should also help to start you off along this path if this is your intention.
