Eurocamp – Fabulous Camping Village, Rome

We have just returned from a wonderful summer in Europe. Most of our stay in Europe was spent at the Fabulous Camping Village in Rome. In all honesty, I cannot speak highly enough of the site. Here is a quick post detailing our experience.

Booking

We booked our holiday through Eurocamp. The process was quick and simple. I really like the layout of their site and the way all their sites are mapped out on their interactive map. It made choosing the right holiday for us rather simple. If booking 10 or more weeks before departure, only £99 deposit is required. You can always look for a Tripadvisor promo code to save a bit more on tours and day trips while you’re at it.

Check-In

Arriving at the site, we noticed that the company who owns the site are ‘HU’. They ran the main reception area which we visited first. The check-in process was actually really simple (I had read negative reviews in which people complained about long check-in waits, but that wasn’t the case for us at all). The process may have been made much easier as I had checked in online about a week before our arrival. They then directed us to the Eurocamp reception which was close by to collect our keys.

We had driven to the site and there was ample parking in the reception area.

Accommodation

We opted for a ‘comfort’ cabin which slept 4-6 people. It was just like a static caravan. I was incredibly impressed with the accommodation. We had 3 bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a lounge area, and a bathroom with a separate toilet.

The kitchen included a hob with 4 rings, a fridge freezer, a microwave, a kettle, a coffee maker and a toaster. We were also provided with plates, bowls, cutlery, drinking glasses, wine glasses, pugs, pots, pans and frying pans.

The lounge area consisted of a corner sofa and a dining table and chairs.

The bedrooms were complete with wardrobes, storage cupboards and either single or double beds.

The bathroom consisted of a shower and sink.

Outside we had a partially covered balcony and furnished with 2 sun loungers, a large table and 4 chairs. The BBQ was situated off the balcony. The accommodation provided ample room for 4 people.

Importantly for us, we could park right outside our accommodation.

The Pools

Camping Fabulous Village boasts 3 main pools and a ‘splash zone’.

The pool we spent most of our time in was rather large. Every day the pool was filled with children playing ball or jumping in. There wasn’t much room for swimming for most of the day, but during the early afternoon, the pool became a little quieter.

It is a lovely pool – the floor surrounding the pool contained water – it was a great place from which to lie down and watch the children play whilst also catching a few rays!

The second pool was a tad warmer. Half of this pool was used for activities throughout the day, such as water aerobics.

The third pool was perfect for those with younger children. Described as a lagoon, at one end was a small water slide which was very popular with the children.

The water was shallow throughout- perhaps shin-deep. This pool had a whale for children to climb on and slide off and other water features to interact with.

The splash zone included one of the buckets which fills with water and eventually empties on those below it.

The pool area opened at 9 am and closed at 8 pm (in our second week, the closing time was 7 pm). I did not wait for the pool to open and would often enter the pool area around 9.30 am. There were always ample sunbeds in any preferred spot. Even in the afternoon, empty sunbeds could be found in any area around the pools.

Shops/Restaurants

The pool area included a pool bar. The food and drink was reasonably priced. For instance, a margarita pizza cost 8 euros. Drinks cost around 3 euros each. The food here was delicious and the staff were friendly too.

Each evening at 6.30 pm, we headed to the Gelateria and cafeteria for an ice cream. Again, this was reasonably priced. A small ice cream in a cone cost 3.50 euros and it was delicious! The sheer amount of flavours on offer was mouthwatering!

We ate at the restaurant on the first evening. I had read reviews about slow service which unfortunately turned out to be true. However, this did not have a negative impact on our overall experience. The Pizzas were amazing!

The restaurant is ideally located at the site entrance – in the evening, the skies turn pink and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Most evenings, we ordered from the takeaway. The menu was great for kids offering pizza, pasta, burgers and chips. Pizzas cost around 9 euros and were enough to feed 2 people. The burger and chips were incredibly filling and tasty.

There is also a street food vendor offering pork sandwiches and crepes. The pork sandwiches were incredible – the pork melted in the mouth.

The site has its own supermarket which again was reasonably priced. It stocked all necessities and a great selection of foods and drinks. A much larger and slightly cheaper supermarket lies down the road (about a 10-minute walk). This was great for us as we had a car and could load the boot with lots of goodies.

Entertainment

The on-site entertainment was impressive. Visitors can take part in as much or as little as they want. Each evening, we watched the show put on by the entertainment team. They were all incredibly hard-working and put on the most fantastic shows. We watched cabarets, Beauty and the Beast and a music show to name just a few. Shows were performed in the ‘amphitheatre’. This was a large open outdoor space which was perfect for the evening shows.

Discos were held for younger children before the evening shows.

Occasionally. a band performed in the bar area. The band we saw was very talented and performed a wide variety of toe-tapping numbers.

For younger children, bouncing away on the trampolines is a great option. Having slightly older children, we didn’t venture into this area.

Throughout the day, activities were held around the pool, in the amphitheatre and in the soft play area. Sports tournaments were also held on the basketball and football courts. These were sometimes held in the evenings.

Go-Karts can be hired on-site. We saw plenty of children enjoying the karts throughout the park each day.

The Site

The site is absolutely huge. It really is just like a village! If you are camping, there are a number of shower and toilet blocks which were extremely clean. If you are arriving in a car or hiring one, you’ll find it easy to navigate your way through the site. The roads are wide enough for 2 cars and there is ample parking throughout the site.

Fabulous Camping Village is a stone’s throw away from Rome. We could see the Vatican from our balcony. A bus can be taken from just outside the camp into Rome. There is also a bus that runs to the popular Ostia Beach.

For us, it was an ideal place to spend 10 nights. We ventured into Pompeii and Pisa. The weather was perfect – some days reaching 36 degrees. We all came home feeling refreshed, relaxed and incredibly tanned.

We will most definitely be returning to Fabulous Camping Village in the near future!
