A Visit to The Minack Theatre

During a recent visit to Cornwall, we made a special visit to The Minack Theatre . This was our first visit to this beautiful landmark and it did not disappoint.

Accessibility

The first point I would like to discuss is accessibility. The Minack Theatre is one of the most accessible and disabled friendly venues we have ever visited. This is all the more incredible when you when considering the theatre is carved into a cliff, therefore making the venue accessible must be very difficult.

A carer is entitled to a free ticket when accompanying a disabled visitor and this booking needs to be made via telephone (which was quick and easy).

Disabled parking is available close to the entrance of the theatre, adjacent to the ticket office. Staff welcomed us and showed us the accessible, step-free route to our seats. We were provided with comfortable chairs on a higher tiered balcony removing the need to climb down to the regular public seating area. The seats were also close to the toilets and we had a perfect view of the show.

The Venue

The Minack cannot easily be described – it is truly one of the most spectacular venues I have ever been to. Carved into the cliff, the theatre was built by firmer owner of the Minack, Rowena Cade and her assistants by hand and without the help of machinery. The time and dedication poured into the theatre resonates throughout the site.

The general seating area is tiered and visitors are invited to bring cushions to sit on as the rocky seating area although utterly charming can be slightly uncomfortable. Visitors look down to the stage from their seats and the sea backs for the perfect backdrop.

Hot and cold drinks along with snacks can be purchased from the ticket office or from the cafeteria inside the theatre itself.

The Show

The shows at The Minack are performed by visiting performers. We were fortunate enough to watch a performance of Treasure Island on our visit and it is undoubtedly the funniest show we have ever seen. We were roaring laughing from start to finish.

There are a variety of shows running throughout the year, so whenever you visit, you’re sure to be entertained.

The staff were amazing, the venue is stunning, it has been made accessible for all and the show was superb, we will definitely be returning to the Minack Theatre on our next Cornish visit!
