Cosmo World Buffet, Manchester

Cosmo World Buffet, Manchester

This Friday was our wedding anniversary. What better way to celebrate 11 years of marriage than with a meal, without the kids! Our wedding meal was amazing, guests at our wedding still talk about how beautiful the food was to this day. So we are rather particular when it comes to our anniversary meal. We had heard about Cosmo World Buffet in Manchester from some of our friends and were eager to try it.

We were greeted and then quickly seated by a friendly waitress. She then explained how the system worked – we were to order our drinks and then help ourselves to all the delicious dishes from the buffet.

We ordered soft drinks, and, like the buffet, we could go back to the drinks machine as many times as we liked. We were pleasantly surprised to see the variety of soft drinks on offer – from Diet Coke to Irn-Bru to fizzy vimto! The glasses we were given were really large too, so we weren’t going to refill them in between dishes which was great!

The Food

I just could not believe the choice of food on offer at Cosmo! We must have stood in awe for 5 minutes whilst we took it all in! There were plenty of plates stacked around the buffet area as well as cutlery. Eventually, we decided to tuck in!

Carvery

Let me begin with my favourite – the traditional humble carvery. You cannot beat a Sunday roast! Cosmo did not disappoint. We had gammon, sausages, bacon, roast potatoes, mash, vegetables and of course, Yorkshire puddings (which were incredibly fluffy and light- just perfect!) The gammon and mash in particular were delicious and were it not for my desire to try as many of the foods on offer, I certainly would have returned to the carvery for a second helping!

Continental

I had heard about the legendary pizzas at Cosmo from my friends and was told not to leave before I had tried it. I can attest that the pizza lives up to its reputation! The pizzas at Cosmo are cooked in wood-fired ovens which makes the base crispy and very tasty. Pepperoni pizza was on offer on our visit. It was full of flavour and it was so scrumptious we went back for more!

The focaccia bread was the perfect accompaniment to our Italian feast.

Cosmo also offered spaghetti bolognese as part of their continental choice. This was just as flavoursome as the pizza!

World of Asia

There was an unbelievable array of Asian foods on offer. In fact, there were too many foods to try! I love egg-fried rice, so that was my first port of call! We tried a few other pieces from this area, such as the squid and spring rolls.

House of Spice

We were very excited to try some of the dishes from this massive Indian banquet. Very much like World of Asia, House of Spice was filled with lots of smaller dishes to pick at as well as some more substantial meals. I love crunching on popadoms and Nan bread and these were delicious. For those not already completely stuffed, larger dishes such as chicken tika masala and Kashmiri lamb were there to enjoy.

Teppanyaki

Prior to my visit to Cosmo, I had no idea what Teppanyaki was! It is essentially Japanese food which is cooked on an iron griddle. Often confused with the currently popular hibachi, Teppanyaki cuisine is similarly cooked in front of diners.

The aromas coming from this section of the buffet were simply mouth-watering! Diners can opt for steak, scallops or prawns and watch as the chef carefully cooks their food in front of their eyes.

Tasting Kitchen

I love the premise of the tasting kitchen – lots of smaller dishes for customers to try. On our visit, there were ample of such dishes on offer, such as chips, chicken nuggets, cottage pie, onion rings and chilli con carne. I must say the chicken nuggets were the best we have ever had and the onion rings were like no other onion ring we have ever tried before! They were incredibly moreish!

I love to try lots of different foods and felt I had eaten about 4 main meals! I was stuffed but still had to make some room for dessert!

Dessert

Dessert is always my most favourite part of any meal. Cosmo did not disappoint here.

I was stunned by the variety of desserts on offer. In fact, I had to walk up and down the dessert section a few times just to narrow my choices down. I loved the little square selection of desserts. This meant I could try a large number of desserts without becoming too full. There were cheesecakes of every variety and all were utterly incredible. The profiteroles were filled with custard or cream and coated in plenty of chocolate.

The ice cream machine wasn’t working on our visit, but ice cream tubs were available which was a nice alternative.

I think the highlight of the evening was the chocolate fountain. We arranged some marshmallows on a stick and drenched them in delicious chocolate.

We also had a selection of sweets to choose from which was a really nice touch.

Why We Would Recommend Cosmo World Buffet

With its huge variety of dishes from around the world, Cosmo really has ensured there is something for everyone! We left the restaurant, absolutely stuffed, yet planning our next visit to this incredible place.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and despite the popularity of the restaurant, they ensured everyone was seated as quickly as possible. Food was continuously brought out throughout our visit thus ensuring there was ample food for every guest. Not only was the food delicious, but the establishment was clean too. Staff were constantly on hand to clear away plates once were had finished a dish. This was great as the table was not cluttered with plates and cutlery.

Conveniently located in the centre of Manchester, getting to the restaurant is very easy. The restaurant is situated on the first floor, however, there is a lift for disabled guests and prams. There is also disabled on-street parking close by.

What a way to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary!
