Our Stay in Switzerland

This is a short post relating to our short stay in Switzerland. We travelled through Switzerland as we drove to Italy and decided to spend 2 days and 1 night in Switzerland. None of us had ever been to Switzerland before, little did we know we were in for such a treat!

Staying in Switzerland

Looking at a map, we decided to make a stop on our epic journey just before we reached the Alps. Lucerne was the logical place to stop. We spent the night at the Holiday Inn in Lucerne. We chose this hotel for its location and it was within our budget. As it was only a stop-off, we simply wanted somewhere to rest for the evening and grab breakfast in the morning. The hotel was nothing special, but it was just what we needed. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, in the summer heat, the room was sweltering. Instead of air conditioning, we had a small fan in the room.

The breakfast was continental and we all really enjoyed it. The hotel is situated in the service, making it great for onward travel! The services had a nice shop and a Burger King. We discovered that food at the services in Switzerland is terribly expensive. For 3 burgers, 3 fries and 3 medium drinks, the cost was £45!

Lake Lucerne

During our stay in Switzerland, we made a stop at Lake Lucerne. Friends had told me how beautiful the lake was and we simply had to see it.

There are a number of car parks dotted along the shore of the lake. These are ideal for stopping off and taking a few pictures, or simply appreciating this beauty spot.

Boat trips can be taken along the lake.

The lake lies close to the city of Lucerne. Unfortunately, we did not have time to explore the city, but our drive through the streets revealed it to be a beautiful place.

The highlight of our time in Switzerland was undoubtedly our journey through the Swiss Alps. So amazed were we with the experience, we decided to drive through the Swiss Alps once again on our way home! I explore this in another post – The Swiss Alps.
