Update Your Bedroom Before Christmas

Update Your Bedroom Before Christmas

With the dark nights ahead, wet weekends and cold weather setting in, there is no better time to update your bedroom before Christmas. Here are a few ways you could do this to ensure your bedroom is a cozy winter retreat!

A New Bed

After all, what is the centrepiece of the bedroom – the bed! Why not treat yourself to a new cozy bed this winter? A new bed would make the perfect Christmas present for a loved one, or for yourself! Getting a good night’s sleep is the key to successful living and a comfortable bed is essential. Choosing a new bed can be fun.

First, consider the type of bed you want. Divan beds are incredibly popular as they offer storage solutions as well as being aesthetically pleasing.

Next, consider the size of the room. Will you need a double or a king-size bed? If you are re-vamping a child’s or a guest room, a Small double bed is a great option. They are slightly larger than a single bed yet do not take up as much space as a full double bed or a king-size bed. Upgrading your child’s single bed to a small double bed is a great Christmas gift idea. Giving them a little extra space and it will make them feel incredibly grown up!

Bedding

Whether you decide to upgrade your bed or not this Christmas, new bedding will make a huge difference to your bedroom. You could really get into the festive mood and opt for some seasonal bedding. There are plenty of options on the market.

Or if you would like to use your new bedding throughout the year, consider a neutral colour. White and silver bedsheets and quilts are an excellent choice. They bring a sense of cleanliness and tranquillity into any bedroom.

If your bedroom already has a colour scheme, choose bedding that will fit seamlessly into your existing decor. Indeed, new bedding is a great way to add a splash of colour to a neutral colour scheme.

Lighting

Getting the lighting right is one of the most important ways you can update your bedroom this Christmas. With the dark nights and dull mornings setting in, you’ll be heading for the light all too often. You’ll want to consider how you create light in your bedroom during the winter months.

Table lamps are a great way to bring light into the room without the harsh brightness of a ceiling light. The right table light can offer a relaxing and tranquil ambience which is perfect for the bedroom. Make sure the table lamp you choose will produce enough light.

Alternatively, floor lamps are a great option! They tend to produce more light than the smaller table lamps and can make a great statement piece in the bedroom!

Curtains

Like bedding, curtains are a great way to inject some colour into your bedroom or to enhance an existing decor or colour scheme.

If you struggle to sleep, try black our curtains. We recently updated our daughter’s bedroom and invested in a pair. They are a great way to block out the depressing orange colour of the nearby street light, as well as blocking out the sunshine during the weekend lie-ins!

Accessories

Accessories are a quick, easy and cost-effective way to update your bedroom for Christmas. You could opt for some seasonal accessories which will bring that festive cheer into your sleeping space. I don’t necessarily mean going all out with tinsel and a Christmas tree! There are many subtle ways to decorate a bedroom for Christmas, with smaller pieces which can sit on the bedside table or the window sill.

However, if you do want to go all out then that’s fantastic! My daughters love their small Christmas trees which they decorate themselves every 1st December and stand in their bedrooms! They say it ensures they begin their day with a little festive cheer!

Alternatively, purchase accessories which match your existing decor. A new mirror or vase can really uplift the space and give the bedroom a makeover! Consider the placement of new accessories -will they get in the way or be knocked over often?

De-Clutter

My wardrobe and chest of drawers are full to the brim with clothes. Many of these items are summer clothes which I won’t be wearing for some months. I really need to de-clutter and put my summer clothes in storage and update my wardrobe with my winter clothes.

To save space, I put the clothes I won’t be wearing into vacuum bags. These are a great storage solution. They can then be packed away into the attic. The bags keep the clothes free from germs, damp and moths and are fresh to wear when I open the bags in the spring.

So dig out your Christmas jumper and make way for your winter wardrobe!

If you have too many accessories in your bedroom, consider having a complete clear-out. Sometimes minimal is better and too much clutter in your room can prevent you from having a good night’s sleep.

Remove any distractions from your bedroom that might inhibit your ability to rest and sleep. It’s an obvious point, but always remember, that your bedroom’s primary function is as a place of rest. Make sure your room is cozy and comfortable and has a welcoming feel.
