Our Visit to Pisa

As part of our road trip this summer, we made a quick stop in Pisa. Pisa has been on our bucket list for quite some time now. We were very excited to go! Having visited this beautiful city, we can now share the best time to visit Pisa.

Planning our trip, we looked for a hotel close to Pisa. We found the perfect one which was about a 10-minute drive from the city of Pisa. The Casale La Sterpaia is an absolutely beautiful hotel and a real gem of a find. It is located within the San Rossore National Park. The national park boasts exquisite beaches, wildlife and some of the most beautiful woodland areas I have ever seen. The park covers 56,000 acres of land and driving through it was a truly unforgettable experience.

The Casale La Sterpaia is an old farmhouse and is complete with horses and stables. The hotel has 22 rooms which, importantly, all have air conditioning. The hotel has its own beautiful corner of the San Rossore National Park.

The views from our room were simply stunning.

The hotel grounds are incredibly picturesque.

Before a comfortable night’s sleep, we played cards on the balcony.

And in the morning, we enjoyed a continental breakfast. There was ample food and it was fresh and delicious.

When is the best time to visit Pisa?

Having checked in to our hotel at 4pm, we decided to freshen up and head out for a drive. At around 6pm we found ourselves in the centre of Pisa and could see the tower in the distance. We noticed that the city was incredibly quiet. Most of the day;s tourists had headed home. The car parks were not filled with cars or coaches. In fact, we drove into the city, through the city walls and parked on one of the streets. It was then a 2-minute walk to the tower.

Given our experience, the best time to visit Pisa is in the evening. The tower and shops are still open, but the streets are much quieter than in the day. Importantly, as it is quieter, you’ll have more space to take your pictures of the tower.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Having no head for heights, I decided not to go inside the tower and climb to the top. Instead, we enjoyed the beauty of one of the world’s most famous landmarks from the outside.

We had lots of fun taking our pictures.

As we visited in the evening, we had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful skies.

We arrived in the daylight and left the tower in darkness.

Aside from the tower and the Cathedral, there is little else to do in Pisa. Having spent a good couple of hours around the tower, we headed to a pizzeria for dinner.

Our visit to Pisa was certainly memorable and one of the most enjoyable experiences on our road trip. On a summer’s evening, Pisa is truly a beautiful city.
