If you’re planning a massive kitchen renovation, you’ll know that a lot of logistical planning goes into it. You have to coordinate everything and ensure it goes to plan, especially since living in a home without a kitchen is almost impossible.
In this blog post, we look at some of the logistics and considerations when planning a big kitchen revamp and some of the things that you’ll want to do.
Professionals And Contractors
Most homeowners usually start by finding the right professionals for their requirements. They look for licensed and insured contractors with kitchen-building experience.
Make sure you get several quotes before figuring out who is offering the best price. Also, ensure you’re using specialized trades, like electricians and plumbers.
Next, look at clear contract outlines and scope. Ask the professionals what they can deliver and by when.
Timeline
Next, you’ll want to look at the timeline and scheduling. When it’s the kitchen that’s out of action, you want to ensure that all the work takes place as quickly as possible so you can actually use your home.
Therefore, create a detailed project timeline. Make sure that contractors are being diligent with their timelines and planning, and that they have all the resources you need, ready to go when they start work.
For example, you’ll want to do things like coordinate the delivery of certain materials.
Demolition And Prep
Another area worth looking into is demolition and prep. You need to have various systems in place, especially if you’re planning on ripping out an old kitchen and replacing it with a new one.
For example, you’ll want to remove appliances that you intend to keep, and any cabinetry, and store it somewhere else. Sometimes, you’ll want to actually work on these items, perhaps upgrading them by adding new frontages.
You also need to explore options like skip hire if you’re planning on removing a lot of material. You’d be surprised by just how much stuff can come out of a kitchen renovation.
If you can set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in your home, that’s a good idea. For example, you might want to put one in your dining room or garage, just so that you have somewhere to cook food. These days, there are all sorts of portable cooking appliances that you can find that will just plug into a regular socket.
Protection

You should also think about how you’ll protect the rest of your home during work. For example, do you need to put down things like plastic sheets?
Remember, if contractors are working on your property, they’ll bring in a lot of dirt with them, so you’ll want to be careful with this.
Structural Work
Lastly, always plan the structural work properly. If you’re extending your kitchen or making basic changes to the shape of the room, you’ll need a full survey.
Remember, things like water and gas lines can actually lead to changes in the walls. As such, always do proper planning if you want to move things around.
This is a collaborative post, however, as always, all opinions are my own.
